Summary
Lila Mae is an intuitionist. She checks the health of elevators by listening to what the elevator has to say as opposed to the empiricists who look for physical evidence. An elevator Lila Mae has okayed for service is destroyed in a rare free fall and stirs up political trouble between the intuitionists and empiricists.
Critique
This book is classed as a mystery but it has a little bit more to it than a straight who-dun-it. There are political maneuverings, intriguing personal relationships, as well as the possible sabotage to investigate. The characters are well developed and the background of elevator information is fascinating. Recommended reading.
