Summary
To escape her poor life in Nekropolis, Hariba allows herself to be `jessed` so that she can be a loyal, indentured servant. When she starts to work for a wealthy merchant, she falls in love with another servant, Akhmim, an intelligent and kind man, but he is also machine-made and artificial.
Critique
A thought-provoking read. Several social issues such as prejudices and the differences in social classes are raised for the reader to ponder. The chapters are told in first person narratives by the characters. The reader gets differing viewpoints to consider. Highly recommend.
