Summary
12-year-old Astrid's mother, bohemian artist Ingrid, is imprisoned for murder, and Astrid is forced to live in foster care for the 6 years until she turns 18 and can live on her own. As she is bumped from foster home to foster home, Astrid attempts to deal with becoming a `normal` adult who has grown up under very abnormal conditions.

Engrossing and seductive. Complex female characters. Beautifully written and unforgettable. Highly recommend.
