Summary
After Henry Townsend, a former slave and current slave owner, dies, the 'known world' that surrounded him begins to unravel - slaves escape, families betray one another, 'free' slaves are sold back into slavery by poor white patrollers.
Critique
A fascinating book which reveals the effect of slavery on all people living within its grasp. A cast full of characters and forays into present and past provide a challenging read. Could not put it down. Highly recommend.
