Summary
Amy Balcourt lost her beloved father to the guillotine during the French Revolution. To avenge his death, Amy plans to join the espionage ring led by the Purple Gentian to stop Napoleon's invasion of England. When Amy receives a letter from her older brother informing her that it is safe to return to France, she realizes her opportunity is at hand.
Critique
An immensely sly, smart, and funny romp written by a 26-year-old doctoral candidate from Harvard. Willig plays very successfully with history and the romance genre. Eloise Kelly, her modern-day narrator, adds a touch of contemporary romance. The author has a sequel in the works. Highly recommend.
