Summary
When Rose Mae Lolley, a former high school classmate, knocks on Arlene Fleet's door in Chicago, she is a very unwelcome visitor from the past. Arlene left Alabama ten years ago vowing never to return. She has her reasons for not returning and the murder she committed tops her list. But now that Rose Mae is stirring up a hornet's nest of trouble, Arlene must go home to protect her family and make sure dark secrets are not revealed.
Critique
In her debut novel, Joshilyn Jackson takes the reader on a fast-paced train wreck of a ride. Arlene's relationship with her black boyfriend is portrayed with tenderness and humor. The surprise ending goes down smoother than Jack Daniels. Highly recommend. Contains graphic sex and strong language.
