Summary
Separated from his family when a civil war in an unnamed African country erupts, Agu is taken captive and made into a butchering soldier by a band of lawless men and mostly boys.
Critique
A slim yet harrowing account of a boy's coming of age amidst the ravages of war. Told in an innocent voice that stays with the reader long after the book is closed. Highly recommended but heartbreaking reading.
