Summary
High-schooler Daniel Musgrove and his family are relocated to Mississippi because of their father's work transfer, but 'Yankee' Daniel doesn't fit in until he meets and befriends Tim Cousins, a bitter loner who loves a good joke. The two are fast friends amidst a newly integrated school filled with bullies and many strong opinions regarding race. When Daniel and Tim accidentally hit the first black prom queen with Tim's car one night, their futures and friendship are ultimately changed forever.
Critique
An engrossing novel that is not what you'd expect. Part hilarious coming-of-age adventure novel. Part revenge-thriller. Completely fascinating.
