Summary
Carlo Weisz, a foreign correspondent for Reuters, becomes the editor of an Italian, anti-fascist underground newspaper after the previous editor is killed by the Italian secret police. Carlo struggles not only to keep the newspaper alive but also for his own life as his journalist assignments take him around Europe during the dangerous and tumultuous times prior to World War II.
Critique
A fascinating look at Europe prior to the start of World War II. The characters may be well-developed but it is the author's gritty, realistic historical descriptions that bring the reader into the story. The reader will feel that he/she is right along with Carlo as he travels in Europe. Highly recommend.
