Summary
Detective Jack Spratt of the Reading Nursery Crimes Division and his partner Sergeant Mary, Mary are back to work on another case. They are trying to locate the missing Henrietta `Goldilocks` Hatchett, an investigative reporter who has mysteriously disappeared while working on a story about cucumbers. They are also involved in trying to catch the murderous Gingerbreadman who has escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane.
Critique
What a fun and clever book filled with loads of puns and literary allusions! Although the author's Thursday Next stories are more developed, this start of a new series seems very promising. Very original and inventive. Highly recommend.
