Summary
June, a cook at an elementary school, passes up taking a ride from a stranger when her car breaks down and later discovers that the same stranger is arrested for murdering local woman Vernay Hanks. Believing that she could have easily been the one killed, June becomes obsessed with the dead woman's life and introduces herself to Vernay's child and brother as Vernay's once-close friend--leading to deceit and strain in her seemingly otherwise perfect marriage.
Critique
June is a believable character with real strengths, weaknesses and moral dilemmas. A compelling mystery with big surprises. A quick and very satisfying read. Highly recommend.
