Summary
A mysterious manuscript unearthed in the cellar of her centuries old house is merely the undercurrent for the challenges confronting Jacobia `Jake` Tiptree as criminal connections from her previous high-powered Wall-Street career surface and threaten to overwhelm her.
Critique
The resourcefulness required for maintaining a rambling old house is the author's clever metaphor for Jake's deft handling of her myriad personal affairs and the circumstances which ensnare her. The series is ably reinforced by the presence of Jake's best friend, Ellie, and her housekeeper Bella. Recommend.
