Summary
Anita, vampire executioner, has received execution warrants on two members of Malcolm’s vampire congregation. When Malcolm tells Anita there has been a mistake and someone is framing his Church members in order to take over Malcolm’s community, Anita isn’t sure she believes him. But then Anita receives a message from the Harlequin (the scourge of vampiredom) indicating that they are also “watching” her and Jean Claude. Anita recruits some old “friends” to act as backup, in order to make sure Jean Claude’s people are safe, and the whole situation goes to… well, you know.
Critique
This is the 15th book in the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series. If you were a fan of the first few books of this series, you will love Harlequin. This book recaptures the mystery and plot that has been missing from the last few books in this series. I do recommend reading the other books in the Anita Blake series before reading this one. The Harlequin ties up quite a few loose ends and brings back characters from previous books in the series, which might leave a new reader confused. The Harlequin contains some very sexually explicit scenes. I recommended the entire series and this book, in particular.
