Summary
After joining his girlfriend in Thailand, a young reporter hears about the story of Martiya van der Leun, an anthropologist who committed suicide in a Thai prison while serving a life sentence for murder. He becomes obsessed with her crime, delving into her life and work.
Critique
Part murder mystery, part anthropological thesis, this novel is a fascinating story of anthropology, missionary work and cultural clashes complete with exotic setting, a fictional tribe and a dose of humor. Recommended.
