Summary
Willie Upton returns home pregnant with her college professor's child to Templeton, New York. She arrives on the same day the corpse of Glimmy, the town's fabled monster, rises from the bottom of Templeton's Lake Glimmerglass and turns her once quiet small town into a tabloid headline. If that weren't enough, Willie's ex-hippie mother has turned into a judgmental Christian who reveals to Willie that her father is not a former commune member, but instead is a stalwart town citizen. Willie sets out on a quest in search of the truth about her lineage and finds out much more than she expected about her family tree.
Critique
Part historical novel and part mystery, this book with its likeable characters is very funny and hard to put down. The fictional town of Templeton (based on Cooperstown, New York) is a fun place to visit. Recommend.
