Summary
From 1974 to 1985, seven pairs of lovers parked in their cars in secluded areas outside of Florence were gruesomely murdered by Italy's answer to Jack the Ripper. The link to the killings is an old gun that somehow passed from a slow-witted man to the cunning killer or killers.
Critique
The first half of the book, written by Spezi, contains a first-hand account of his investigation into the `Monster` killings over more than 20 years. The second part, written by Preston, contains his involvement with Spezi after he moved his family to Florence in 2001. Reads like fiction. Gives a chilling account of a cunning killer who gets away with his crimes due to police and politicians more interested in saving face than learning the truth. Although the police still cannot solve the crime, they actually charged both authors with obstructing justice when they began to make their investigation public. Highly recommend.
