Summary
Soon after Wanderer, a parasitic alien being, wakes up in her new human host, she realizes that her host's consciousness has not disappeared. Melanie is still there and is furious that her body has been taken over by Wanderer. This book is an engaging story describing how two very different people, with extremely different wants and desires, struggle to live within one body and survive on an Earth that has been thoroughly claimed by a parasitic alien empire.
Critique
Stephenie Meyer (known for her wildly popular young adult books) has written an exceptional novel for adults. This is an extraordinary story of strength, courage and love, as well as being an alien invasion story. This amazingly written book forces the reader to care for Wanderer, the main character, even though she is a parasitic alien being. But you also come to agonize for the life of Melanie, her human host. Readers will struggle with each character's decisions and will truly feel for them. This is an outstanding read. Highly recommended.
