Summary
Born mute and only able to speak in sign, Edgar Sawtelle leads an idyllic life with his parents on their farm in remote northern Wisconsin training a special breed of dogs until his father suddenly dies. As Uncle Claude takes over his father's duties and becomes romantically involved with his mother, Edgar begins to realize that his father's death may not have been an accident.
Critique
A lyrically written story that pulls you in to the Sawtelle family's extraordinary life. Lots of philosophy about the interaction between dogs and humans. There has been a great deal of controversy over the ending. Highly recommend.
