Summary
Joseph Michtom lives with his parents, younger sister and baby brother in Brooklyn. After seeing a cartoon with President Roosevelt refusing to shoot a baby bear, they convert their candy store to make stuffed bears. As the Michtom's grow wealthy, they lose time together as a family. It's how the Michtoms face new challenges that makes their future better than their past.
Critique
A wonderful peek into the family life of recent immigrants at the start of the 20th century. But it's the way these different families, friends, and neighbors relate to each other that makes the story come to life. Highly recommended read.
