Summary
Lizzie Martin is sent to the coast of England to act as companion to Lucy Carver, a young woman who is in denial of the recent death of her newborn daughter. As Lizzie learns of family disapproval regarding Lucy's marriage, she suspects that she is really there to keep Lucy out of more trouble. Unfortunately, the local rat-catcher is murdered just days after Lizzie's arrival. Lizzie's beau, Inspector Ben Ross, travels from London, and together, they investigate the crime.

Critique
This second Lizzie Martin mystery might just be better than the first. This author provides attention to detail and delivers memorable descriptions of Victorian Era England and has created is an engrossing and intriguing mystery as well. Lizzie and Ben are a sweet couple. Highly recommend.
