Summary
While assigned to the French embassy in Warsaw, Poland, in 1937, Colonel Jean-Francois Mercier runs a network of spies to find out what the Nazis are doing in Germany to rebuild their power. His life is further complicated when he falls in love with Anna Szarbek, a Polish woman who works as a lawyer for The League of Nations.

Critique
Through his detailed descriptions, the author is able to transport the reader back in time to Warsaw. Carefully researched with interesting characters, the author presents a fascinating depiction of Europe prior to World War II. Highly recommend.
