Summary
Death narrates a moving novel about Liesel and her young brother who are adopted by a German family outside of Munich. When her young brother dies, Liesel steals the gravedigger's handbook, despite not being able to read. Her foster father soon teaches her to read, and she shares her books with the many characters that enter and leave her life.
