Summary
Uber crotchety Detective John Rebus is retiring in one week, going over cold cases with his partner Siobhan, when a Russian poet is brutally murdered. Is the murder a mugging, or does it involve a visiting Russian business delegation with connections to Edinburgh crime boss “Big Ger” Cafferty? One last case for Rebus, one last chance to put away his longtime rival.
Critique
This is Rankin's last book about Detective Rebus, a booze swilling, cigarette smoking, music loving thorn in the side of the Edinburgh police department. This story twists and turns and comes to a surprising finale.
