Summary
It’s 1947, and with Joe, her stepfather, home from the war, sixteen-year-old Evie thinks her life will return to normal. When Joe relocates their family to Florida, though, things change. There, Evie becomes smitten with Peter, a handsome ex-GI who holds some secret over Joe, and she finds herself caught in a web of secrets and lies that will change her family forever.

Critique
2008 Winner of the National Book Award. Crime noir meets historical fiction in this atmospheric coming-of-age story set in the late 1940s. A memorable novel filled with slick writing, convincing characters and edge-of-your-seat suspense. Highly recommend.
