Summary
After the health of her grandmother begins to fail, motherless 15-year-old Jamie is sent to live with her Uncle Raymond in Moline, Illinois where she feels like an outsider until her cool, slightly older cousin Fawn comes to stay with them. Fawn's love of excitement draws an innocent Jamie into a dangerous world, and when the girls get into serious trouble, Raymond is reminded too much of his beloved but damaged sister Suzette, Jamie's mother.

Critique
A quick and emotional read that brings both the awkwardness of adolescence and the 1970s to life. A first novel that explores the bonds of friendship and family with fully realized and memorable characters. Recommended reading.
