Summary
Robert, Duke of Dovedale, returns home after 12 years in India to exact revenge for the death of a dear friend. Lady Charlotte Lansdowne, his orphaned cousin, lives in his ducal home along with her contentious grandmother. While Robert was away, Charlotte grew into a beautiful and intelligent young woman. Charlotte has always loved and admired Robert, but he is unable to show his true feelings for her because she might be used as a pawn by a dangerous spy ring.
Critique
There are spies aplenty in this 5th in the Pink Carnation series. Author Willig continues her immensely satisfying series with a foray into the perils of the personal life of George III. Charlotte's transformation from innocent daydreamer to heroine is dramatic. Highly recommend.
