Summary
A Member of Parliament, good-looking and successful Ivor Tesham, plans a surprise for his unhappily married girlfriend, Hebe. Hebe is to be kidnapped and brought to him as part of their adventurous sex life, but things go horribly wrong. When the bound and gagged body of Hebe is found in a deadly car accident, Ivor's life gets increasingly complicated as he wonders how long before the truth is revealed and his reputation is sullied.
Critique
Told as a distant memory from the alternating perspectives of Ivor's loyal brother-in-law Robin and Jane Atherton, Hebe's bitter and resentful friend. This complex tale is hard to put down. Vine, a pseudonym for mystery author Ruth Rendell, delivers a gripping read. Highly recommend.
