Summary
The 14th entry in the series finishes the story begun in the `Runaway Quilt,` published in 2002. An employee of Sylvia Bergstrom Compson plans to refinish an old desk when a stack of letters is discovered in a locked drawer. The letters date back to the 1850s, and they are from escaped slave Joanna North. She traveled the Underground Railroad spending some time in hiding at Elm Creek until captured and sent back to Virginia.

Critique
Joanna's circumstances are difficult to imagine. This is a wonderful story of fortitude. Highly recommend.
