Summary
Sam, eleven years old, decides to keep a journal as he confronts his death from leukemia. Through lists, questions, drawings and stories, we learn about Sam, his treatment, his friendships, and the ways his family members uniquely deal with his illness.
Critique
Nicholls' first novel is an unsentimental journey through the last days of a funny, frail little boy. Though we know how the book will end, the journey to get to know Sam is well worth it. Winner of the Waterstone Children’s Book Prize in the U.K.
