Summary
After his butterfly-breeding father falls victim to a heartless one-eyed criminal, Hector travels to the shady side of Urbs Umida to the grotesque home of Lord and Lady Mandible who have taken into their home Hector's nemesis. Once there, Hector is hired to breed some butterflies for Lady Mandible's Mid Winter Feast--providing him with the perfect opportunity to exact his revenge.

Critique
An action-packed and atmospheric story that is perfect for reluctant teen readers. While this is the third of Higgins' books set in Urbs Umida, it can be read independently. Filled with fiends, gruesome scenes, and terrifying forest creatures, this creepy and smart fantasy adventure is great fun but not for the squeamish. Recommend.
