Summary
After `surviving` a dark reaper attack on her prom night, Madison Avery is in a dangerous spot. Technically she is dead, but she still has a body thanks to the amulet she stole from the reaper who killed her. The reaper wants his amulet back and will stop at nothing to get it. Madison, with the help of her friend Josh and a limerick singing guardian angel, decides to make a deal with the reaper, only to discover that fate has a different plan for her.
Critique
Madison Avery's story began as a short story in the collection called Prom Dates from Hell. The novel starts off slowly and is a bit confusing without the background information in the short story, but eventually picks up its pace. At its heart this is a story about learning to fit in, discovering who you really are, and, of course, the battle between free will and fate. The story ends with an interesting twist that nicely sets up the series. Recommended.
