Summary
Tim Underhill, a writer in New York City, returns to his hometown of Millhaven, Illinois after his sister-in-law commits suicide. When 15-year-old Mark, Tim's nephew, disappears a week after his mother's funeral, authorities believe the boy is the latest victim of a local serial killer. Tim, however, is suspicious of the abandoned house that Mark obsessed over right up until his mysterious disappearance.
Critique
This spooky book won the 2003 Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel of the Year and will keep readers up at night. Recommend.
