Summary
In the year 2000, Anny Beth and Melly are about to die of old age until they are recruited to participate in a top secret experiment called Project Turnabout. The goal of the project is to cause people to `unage.` The experiment works, except that the treatment designed to halt the unaging proves fatal. When they learn about this, Melly and Anny Beth run away from the institute and live on their own. Now it is 2085, Melly and Anny Beth are teenagers and someone is after them.
Critique
This is a thought-provoking science fiction novel that addresses issues of morality and medical science. Haddix's future is very believable and adds to the disturbing feel of the book. Readers may find themselves asking: just because we CAN do something, should we? Recommended read for sci-fi fans.
