Summary
Anna and her neighbors Matt and Frankie have been best friends forever until tragedy strikes and Anna is left with a secret to keep. One year later as the girls try to come to terms with their loss, they make a pact to meet and flirt with 20 boys while they vacation in California. However, Anna's secret threatens to ruin her vacation, her friendship with Frankie, and her chances with the cute local guy.
Critique
This is not the fun beach read that one might expect from the title and cover. Rather, it is a beautiful and emotional debut novel about first love, loss, grief, and friendship. There is a perfect blend of light summer fun, romance, heartache, and hope. Ockler writes a fresh, realistic teen voice. Highly recommend
