Summary
When Elspeth Noblin dies, she leaves behind her devoted lover, Robert, a scholar at the Highgate Cemetery in London next door to her flat. She wills that flat to her mirror-twin American nieces, daughters of her own estranged twin, Edie. Twenty-one-year-olds Valentina and Julia are desperate for change, each for different reasons, and quickly move in. Unfortunately, the two have also inherited Elspeth's ghost, who desperately misses her body and life. When Elspeth, whose ghost grows stronger each day, begins communicating from beyond, Valentina hatches a plan to separate herself from Julia--and things go horribly wrong.

Critique
An original story that is drawn with atmospheric writing and fascinating and memorable characters that you'll love, hate, and love to hate. Though the story falls apart a bit at the end, this is still a worthwhile ghostly read, particularly for fans of the author and of gothic novels. Recommend.
