Summary
When a broken leg ends Sylvie's dancing career, her mother decides to ship her off to her father's ancestral home in rural Alabama to finish recuperating. There she meets and is inexplicably drawn to Rhys, a Welsh geology student, who is staying at the old manor house. She also, much to her dismay, meets the ghosts of her ancestors. Trying to make sense of everything that is happening around her and avoid the local golden boy, Shawn Maddox, Sylvie seeks refuge in the ruins of the gardens. As she works to restore the garden and unearth her family history, Sylvie, with the help of Rhys and her sidekick Gigi, the Chihuahua, unearths some dark and sinister happenings.
Critique
Clement-Moore presents a tightly woven tale of history, romance, mystery, and the paranormal. The Splendor Falls is full of description, intrigue, and great characters. Sylvie is an independent, no-nonsense tough girl with a witty personality, snappy comebacks, and a lovable Chihuahua as a sidekick. Rhys is mysterious and handsome and the banter between him and Sylvie is truly entertaining. Fans of Gothic literature and the paranormal will enjoy this eerie Southern tale. Highly recommend.
