Summary
While doing some carpentry work on their home, Shay Bourne killed a young girl, Elizabeth, and her police officer stepfather, and was given the death penalty. Now, eleven years later, her younger sister, Claire, needs a heart transplant. Still on death row, Shay offers his heart to Claire, reopening wounds for Claire's mother who is torn between keeping her daughter alive and seeing him suffer.
Critique
Told from alternate viewpoints, Picoult make you feel both sides of the story. You won't guess the ending. Highly recommend.
