Summary
Doctor Faraday is summoned to check on a servant girl at Hundreds Hall, an estate that his mother worked at when he was a child. Since then, however, Hundreds has lost its luster; the Ayres family, once one of the wealthiest in the area, is barely surviving and cannot afford repairs. Faraday, both envious and admiring, becomes a friend to the family and, when creepy and then horrible things happen, begins to doubt his rational explanations.
