Summary
At a forgettable party in the spring of 1967, twenty-year-old Columbia University student, aspiring poet and writer, Adam Walker, meets the enigmatic Frenchman Rudolf Born and his `special friend,` Margot. Before long, Margot seduces Adam and Born offers Walker a job opportunity of a lifetime, and Adam finds himself witness to an act of violence that will change his life forever.

Critique
Told in three perspectives and in four parts, this is classic Auster, who plays with identity and stories within stories in most of his novels. With more violence and sexuality than in his previous works. Recommend.
