Summary
Set in the 1950s, Lark and her half brother Termite are being raised by their mother's sister, their Aunt Nonie, in West Virginia. Termite is a severely mentally and physically disabled nine-year-old boy. His 17-year-old sister Lark tenderly cares for him and desperately hopes to continue to do so. Meanwhile, the story of Termite's father's death in the Korean War is also interwoven.

Critique
Told in alternating perspectives and with portions written in a stream of consciousness style, this book makes for a tougher but oh-so-rewarding read. A beautifully rendered story about siblings, loss, the connection of family, and spirituality. Recommend.
