Summary
In 1909 striking shirtwaist makers were seeking better pay, a shorter 52-hour workweek, four paid holidays, employer-furnished supplies, etc. This is the diary of a young single woman who joined the strike. Mary lives with family and is fortunate that room and board is provided for her. The majority of her co-workers are supporting their families and are destitute even with the wages they earn.

Critique
A troubling story due to the conditions these young workers were forced to endure at work, at home, and while on strike. Moving and informative. Recommend.
