Summary
Like many teens growing up in the 80s, 15-year-old, ugly-duckling Davidia dreams of a Sixteen Candles/Molly Ringwald ending and getting her prince. Her dream boyfriend is James Farrell, high-school football star and only son of a wealthy family. When James' sister Veronica plays a prank, a devastated Davidia runs away from home--all the way to Los Angeles. Years later, Davidia is now 'Davie,' and a L.A. night-club singer. Has she been able to escape her past to find happiness?
Critique
With the memorable character of Davie Jones, this first novel is refreshing for its unique take on the ugly duckling story line. You'll root for, cry for, and feel embarrassed for Davie the whole way through. Recommend.
