Summary
Mackie Doyle is not like the rest of us. He is a changeling, left in the crib of a human baby sixteen years ago. He is accepted and loved by his family, but his fatal allergies to iron and blood have taken a toll on his health. As he struggles to survive in the human world, he is drawn into the dark and dangerous underworld in order to rescue the sister of the girl he likes. Mackie must come face to face with the creatures of the underworld and find his own place in the world.
Critique
Fantastically creepy world-building and an unlikely hero make The Replacement a dark and compelling story. This unique story is equal parts horror and coming-of-age and is full of angsty humor and monsters. Recommended read.
