Summary
Hobbit Bilbo Baggins, a halfling and creature of comforts by nature, is visited by the wizard Gandalf and soon finds himself entertaining thirteen dwarves and their leader Thorin Oakenshield. Bilbo agrees to become the burglar who will help recover treasure once owned by the dwarves and stolen a hundred years earlier by Smaug the dragon. The group sets off on an incredible quest, battling many dangers and goblins along their way.
Critique
Originally written as a children's story in 1937, this fantasy novel is a prequel to Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy and is a must-read for fans of Middle Earth. Filled with adventure, song, dragons, dwarves and of course, hobbits, Tolkien's classic is irresistible.
