Summary
Before the Civil War, Southern white men would vacation summers with their preferred slave women at Tawawa House, a resort in the free state of Ohio. Mistresses Lizzie, Reenie, and Sweet become close friends over the summers. The women see free blacks working in the resort hotel. When Mawu joins the group, they start thinking about freedom and planning for the possibility with the help a local Quaker woman.
Critique
The book's subject matter is difficult to imagine, but it's an important story. Recommend.
