Summary
Life is difficult for Rosa and her children on many levels. Four of her eight children died, wasted away, without receiving proper medical attention. Eventually Rosa and family flee from her abusive husband with the help of neighbor and first love Lars. Pretending to be husband and wife, the family ends up in San Francisco where they find a specialist who correctly diagnoses the children's hereditary condition. Under assumed names they end up working at a Sonoma valley winery and eventually are able to purchase their own winery.
Critique
Number 19 in the Elm Creek Quilts series is the story of Rosa, a forgiving, strong, and loving woman. Recommend.
