Summary
When asked by his friend Al, high school English teacher Jake Epping goes back in time, through a portal that Al has discovered in his diner's store-room. Every time it's used, the portal opens to September 9, 1958, at 11:58 a.m. Once there, per Al's request, Jake plans to stay until he can prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy that will occur on 11/22/63. Unfortunately for Jake, who goes by the name George Amberson back in time, the past does not want to be changed.
Critique
A totally un-put-downable mix of history, time travel, and suspense. Stephen King continues to reinvent himself and once again, displays masterful writing here in a multilayered story that will leave you breathless. This is the book to choose if you've always thought that Stephen King books weren't for you. Highly recommended reading.
