Summary
Behind newspapers on the windows of a small church in the mountains of North Carolina, snake-handling Carson Chambliss, a preacher with a shady past, leads his congregation of devoted followers. What they have to hide finally comes to light when the local sheriff, Clem Barefield, finds that these charismatic believers are concealing the truth behind the death of an autistic nine-year-old boy.
Critique
This first novel grabs you from the first page and doesn't let you go. Readers who love fiction that reads like a thriller, Southern Gothics and fine writing will devour this whole. Highly recommend.
