Summary
Although not sanctioned by the pope, Napoleon divorces Josephine and demands the hand of 18-year-old princess Marie-Louise of Austria in marriage. He needs an heir. What follows is a narration of the last six years of Napoleon's empire by Marie-Louise, Napoleon's sister Pauline, and Pauline’s Haitian chamberlain, Paul. The wedding, the celebrations, the birth of Napoleon's son, Napoleon's exiles, and Napoleon's death are all included.
