Summary
This collection begins with a story that is framed by the inner monologue of a mother who is both shocked and in grief over her daughter's anorexia. The remainder largely focus on the relationship between Ruby and her daughter Nora, from Ruby's unplanned pregnancy and the desertion of the baby's father, to Nora's childhood and adolescence.
